A diverse cohort of ATC Williams staff gathered in Brisbane from July 29 – 30 to attend the AusIMM Life of Mine | Mine Waste and Tailings Conference, of which we were proud to be a Silver Sponsor. Both conferences were held side by side over two days, attracting over 900 attendees.
Staff from our operations and technical teams travelled from the Perth, Melbourne, and Sunshine Coast offices to attend and support peers who were participating in presentations and panel discussions while also taking the opportunity to deepen their knowledge.
Adding value to our Industry
ATC has a culture of actively encouraging staff engagement and participation in external events for their career development. Many staff enjoyed networking at our conference booth, while others led presentations and discussions. Here’s how we contributed.

Edited by our Chief Technical Officer, Kim Morrison, these references are sought after by tailings management, mine waste, and closure planning professionals.

At the networking event, a caricature artist helped break the ice with on-the-spot caricatures, which proved to be a great memento of the event.
Strengthening our Team Connections
After a busy first day, a team dinner provided the perfect opportunity to unwind and catch up with each other in a relaxed environment.
“I really enjoyed the wide range of participants and presenters from operators to consultants, EoRs, owners, and clients. It was great to take in different perspectives and see how each role fits into the bigger picture.
It was a timely reminder that what we do as consultants is just one part of a larger chain, as real success comes from teamwork and practical collaboration across all parties.
Personally, I gained a clearer understanding of critical controls and how instrumentation and failure modes can be better managed.
A special mention for Mahdi’s presentation, which was practical, sharp, insightful and a great example of the focus we place at ATCW on the quality of our technical work.
Most of all, it was inspiring to see the level of collaboration and knowledge sharing happening across the industry. Learning from past challenges together is what helps us build a safer, more sustainable future in tailings management.”
