Dr. Behnam Pirouz is a civil-hydraulic engineer with experience in the design, construction, and operation of mine tailings and water management systems. His Ph.D. studies were sponsored by ATC Williams and led to the development of a design method for the prediction of tailings beach slopes, a problem for which no solution existed before his work.
His special areas of expertise include project management of multidiscipline projects, design of tailings storage facilities and water management system for mines, design of non-Newtonian slurry transport system (both open channel and pressurized pipe flow), tailings and water Dambreak analysis, design of thickened tailings disposal schemes, thickened tailings beach slopes prediction, laboratory testing, fluid mechanics and measurement techniques, pilot plant testing and undertaking experimental and theoretical research works.
Dr. Pirouz is the author and co-author of more than 25 technical papers (Journals and Seminars) on topics related to fluid dynamics, non-Newtonian slurry flow behaviour, and tailings beach slope prediction.
