Rowan has been involved in every waste management project stage from strategy, planning approvals, and detailed design and construction phase services, affording him deep appreciation of the issues and constraints that affect key stakeholders managing the practical implications of the development of landfill cells and site rehabilitation, transfer stations/resource recovery facilities (including FOGO). He is also familiar with the challenges of managing emerging contaminants of concern, as well as recovery and management of problem waste streams such as solar panels and mattresses.
Rowan’s recent professional experience encompasses projects specific to landfill facility design of additional cells, strategic planning of greenfield sites, capping, transfer station and resource recovery facility master planning, as well as the latest in liner design and leachate management. Rowan also regularly presents at industry associations, such as WMRRA, and most recently was a committee member for the 2023 ALTS Conference.
Rowan’s 20+ year career has also imparted a keen appreciation of the ‘major project cycle’, and how overall project viability is affected by the natural and built environment, the construction methodology, the design/impact mitigation and the capital cost and, perhaps most critically, the approvals and overarching regulatory framework.
