The Perth office celebrated 30 years of engineering innovation in 2023 with a commitment to strategic growth across WA.
Nelson Amoah, Western Australian Operations Manager and Senior Principal Engineer says, “It’s been an exciting year since I joined ATC Williams last November. We have grown the team from three to eight full-time staff and one part-time and will be recruiting again in 2025. Our recruitment strategy will focus on engineers for design and site work.”

Projecting Success in 2025
“I am happy to be making headway on our strategic plan with many projects underway,” says Nelson. “Just last week, Antofogasta Minerals-Chile have confirmed they will partner with us again in 2025. The team is well settled and looking forward to more complex and challenging projects to add value to our clients through the One ATC Williams philosophy.”
“We enjoy visits from our people based on the East Coast as we continue to provide engineering and technical support for interstate projects that are based in WA.”
Among the many interstate colleagues who visited the Perth office were Craig Noske (Victoria), Robin Trounce and Mick Stadter (Queensland), who were grateful for a working lunch with the Perth team after a week at a remote site in WA.

Career Accomplishments
We congratulate Nelson and Dr Alfredo Arenas, Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer, on these professional accomplishments.
Nelson was a keynote speaker at the 26th International Conference on Paste, Thickened and Filtered Tailings (PASTE 2024) held in Melbourne 16-18 April on the topic ‘The Place for Filtered Tailings in the Search for Safe and Sustainable Tailings Management.’
In addition, Nelson is one of three experts on the International Technical Expert panel (selected from Australia, Chile and USA) for Antofagasta Minerals SA (AMSA)-Chile in an expert advisory role for a major copper mine expansion. Nelson provides expert advice on the planning, site selection, design and operational requirements for tailings filtration and filtered tailings storage.
Alfredo Arenas is the Technical Lead for our Numerical Modelling Technical Community. He has recently returned from the US, where he attended the Tailings and Mine Waste Conference in Denver, Colorado, to present his published paper ‘Feijao Dam – 3D Numerical Simulation: a comprehensive approach, from triggering to dam breach’, coauthored with Nicolas Pereira.
Mine Closure 2024 Conference
“We were excited to host our Facility Closure Technical Community colleagues from Queensland, NSW and Victoria for the Mine Closure 2024 Conference,” says Nelson. “This was an ideal networking opportunity for those interested in learning more about ATCW.”
ATCW were Industry Sponsors of ACG’s Mine Closure Conference held at The Westin Perth from 26-28 November.
