Kim is a globally renowned leader and subject matter expert on critical environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues facing the mining sector. With over 26 years of experience, she has built an unparalleled track record driving sustainable tailings and mine waste management practices across the industry.

As the former global function lead for tailings, dams and heap leach at Newmont Corporation, Kim spearheaded enterprise-wide implementation of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM). She chaired the Steering Committee for the GeoStable Tailings Consortium, a pioneering multi-company initiative studying innovative tailings treatment technologies. Additionally, her role included developing materials for Board meetings and delivering quarterly presentations to the Safety & Sustainability Committee.
Kim’s extensive consulting experience demonstrates strong business and financial acumen in addition to deep technical capabilities. As an independent consultant, she has provided operational insights to clients on responsibly managing mine waste streams while navigating complex regulatory landscapes. Her expertise extends to environmental permitting, having secured approvals for high-profile uranium projects like the Piñon Ridge Mill in Colorado and Sheep Mountain Mine in Wyoming. Furthermore, Kim supported multiple merger and acquisition transactions through comprehensive due diligence evaluations, such as Newmont’s acquisition of Newcrest during her tenure. This combination of entrepreneurial skills, permitting proficiency, and M&A experience complements her first-hand understanding of the technical and regulatory challenges mines face regarding waste management practices. Her authorship of over 50 publications, including editing seminal industry handbooks, underscores her reputation as a foremost authority.
Her leadership roles with preeminent industry organizations like SME, GBA and ICMM have been piv-otal in developing new global best practices, conformance standards and engineer-of-record guidelines for tailings facilities. Her efforts to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in the mining sector further demonstrate principled leadership.
With a long track record of prestigious awards and recognition, including being named in the Top 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining, Kim brings unrivalled credibility. Her unique combination of technical mastery, operational experience, standard-setting influence and committed environmental leader-ship position her to provide Board-level guidance on ESG and sustainability strategies, risk management frameworks, regulatory compliance, and ethical corporate governance.
