Philippe Garneau BEng, MSc, is a Professional Engineer registered in Australia, with near 20 years of varied experience in the mining industry with a focus on mine waste management, environment, rehabilitation, and closure.
Through his career spanning both mining operations and consulting, Philippe has been involved and managed projects at all stages of development from scoping studies for greenfield sites to legacy assets. His project work spans the globe including the Americas, Oceania, Europe, Russia, Central and SE Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. He is well versed in working in culturally diverse environments and managing multi-disciplinary teams and projects across multiple time zones for successful completion of closure studies and implementation of closure designs.
Philippe’s experience makes him a specialist in mine closure and mine waste management for mining operations at all stages of development. He demonstrates thorough understanding of legislative requirements associated with mine closure in various jurisdictions, applicable industry codes and standards, and develops company governance structures for mine closure. He has been called upon as the technical lead for mine closure aspects of Due Diligence reviews for the mining financial sector; as well as conducting 3rd party reviews of mine closure plans and cost estimates for financial reporting. Philippe has developed the closure design of mine waste storage facilities, as well as the initial design and management of these facilities.
